Ensign: Temple Edition (October 2010 “Ensign” Magazine)

Ensign: Temple Edition: October 2010:

intro:

-temple is the House of the Lord literally

-performing ordinances for the dead in the temple testifies of the infinite reach of the Atonement of Jesus Christ.

-In the temple God helps his children prepare to return to live in his presence

-Taking upon us the name of Christ begins at baptism and is enlarged in the temple.

-The temple calls out to us to go there and rest. -TSM.

article: Blessings of the Temple by Thomas S Monson: LDS Church President:

-where our treasure is, there will our heart be also.

-a grandparent can make a significant impact on a child by taking the child to touch the temple of the Lord. This is far more reaching and lasting than getting them ice cream.

-the temple is for families, one of the greatest treasures we have in mortality.

-as we go to the temple we will have power to bear every trial in life and overcome every temptation.

-Heavenly Father’s desire for you and me is that we go to the temple when 12 years old and up, and be baptized for persons who have not had that opportunity.

-the greatest work parents can do is performed in their homes.

-Heaven is not far away inside the temple.

-As we touch and love the temple, our lives will reflect our faith.

-All that occurs inside the temples is uplifting and ennobling.

article “Why These Temples?” by Gordon B. Hinckley 15th President of LDS  Church:

-temples are sacred

-eternal questions are answered therein

-the most beautiful thing about them is what goes on inside them.

-these buildings are set apart from the world.

-temples are so sacred that only members in good standing may enter

-temples are sacred not secret

-the temple is mostly concerned with families, building God’s family and building our family, including the eternal nature of marriage.

-there we realize that every person is a child of God.

-we lived as spirit children before we came to earth (see Jeremiah 1:5).

-marriages in the temple are not till death do you part, they are for eternity. They are built to last.

-seem unfair this is only for LDS Church members? All are welcome to be baptized and become members of the LDS Church. This is why we have an extensive missionary program.

-What of the people who died without temple ordinances? Many have died without having heard about this, so we go and perform these ordinances in their behalf in proxy, having someone stand in their place.  There is no compulsion in the work of the Lord, but there must be opportunity.

-the reason we have the most extensive missionary program in all the world is to offer these blessings of the temple to all the world.

-the reason we have such a large family history program is mainly to identify our ancestors to whom we can offer these temple blessings to who never had the opportunity to have them during this life. We can stand in proxy for them inside the temple for this work to be performed.

Temples Give opportunity to learn of the meaningful things of life:

-as we enter the temple we dress in white and are expected to leave thoughts of the world behind.

In temples we revive promise of God’s everlasting blessings:

-sealed families cannot be destroyed by time, nor corrupted by death.

-temples witness that Jesus Christ is resurrected.
