Purpose of  Richardson Studies Gazette:

-These news articles are in pdf format so you can easily download them. Having some of these will help us teach our children and neighbors. They will also catalog the events of the last days, they are a form of journaling. A person’s life is not to be understood outside of the context of the society in which he lived. Truth is sometimes stranger than fiction, and news reports can help a person have facts to weigh things with.

– Not even Joseph Smith could always tell the wicked from the just, D&C 10:37 reads, ” you cannot always judge the righteous, or as you cannot always tell the wicked from the righteous”. But we must discern between pearls and swine to make righteous judgement. Do not cast your pearls before swine implies that we must make judgements. While we don’t condemn people to final destinies, we are supposed to be wise as serpents; we are to make good choices, which means there are bad choices. We must try and discern. These articles will try and help us in this work of discernment; they will arm us with information, and will therefore clue our souls towards wisdom, as I can best find it.

-D&C 88:78-82 commands that we learn of governments and wars at home and abroad: “ 78 Teach ye diligently and my grace shall attend you, that you may be instructed more perfectly in theory, in principle, in doctrine, in the law of the gospel, in all things that pertain unto the kingdom of God, that are expedient for you to understand;  79 Of things both in heaven and in the earth, and under the earth; things which have been, things which are, things which must shortly come to pass; things which are at home, things which are abroad; the wars and the perplexities of the nations, and the judgments which are on the land; and a knowledge also of countries and of kingdoms—  80 That ye may be prepared in all things when I shall send you again to magnify the calling whereunto I have called you, and the mission with which I have commissioned you. 81 Behold, I sent you out to testify and warn the people, and it becometh every man who hath been warned to warnhis neighbor.  82 Therefore, they are left without excuse, and their sins are upon their own heads.”

-A study of current events can help a person to discern between true and false prophets, a thing which Christ commanded his followers to do.  Matt. 24:24 reads, “ For there shall arise false Christs, and falseprophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.”

-We must beware false teachers, and this will help in that effort: 2 Peter 2:1 reads, “ But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.”

-Book of Mormon in Ether 8 says to not let “secret combinations” get power, and to “awake to a sense of your aweful situation, because of this secret combination which SHALL be among you” (verse 24).

-We are to live in but not of the world. This implies that we know what is going on, be it good or ill.

-Knowing about current events is an expression of our love for humankind.

-We are to publish good tidings. Much of this Gazette works to establish the reality of God. Isaiah 52:7 reads, “How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace; that bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth salvation; that saith unto Zion, Thy God reigneth!”

-We are to use reason to confound our enemies. God will help us in this. Jacob 7:8 reads, “But behold, the Lord God poured in his Spirit into my soul, insomuch that I did confound him in all his words.” We are to prove what is good. Eph. 5:10 reads, “Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord.” Also Romans 12:2 reads, “Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord.”

-Sometimes a little teaching goes a long way. These articles can accomplish great changes for people. Alma 37:6-7 reads, “Now ye may suppose that this is foolishness in me; but behold I say unto you, that by small and simple things are great things brought to pass; and small means in many instances doth confound the wise. And the Lord God doth work by means to bring about his great and eternal purposes; and by very small means the Lord doth confound the wise and bringeth about the salvation of many souls.”

-We are to have means to prove our beliefs, as 1 Peter 3:15 reads, “ But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:”. Remember also that ones political beliefs reflect their moral character, for government is what force we deem acceptable, for what things. Hence you must defend your political views as well as your religious views.

-D&C says we are to raise our voices long and loud as the sound of a trump.

-When someone understands the way things really are, they’re more likely to do something about it.

-Which news you read will influence your opinions, which will influence your behaviors. Here I both show what I can best find to be legitimate news, as well as expose news propaganda.

-Knowing your enemy is the way to defeat them, and to survive their present presence.

-How hardly can God justify the person who sticks their head in the sand and cries for help! We are to stand and fight!

-For example, if I can prove the poor character of a rap musician, I can use that information to help persuade my children to not listen to their music, and thus help them to avoid the subliminal as well as plain messages of seductive corruption which would otherwise gently cheat their souls down to hell.

-An effort is made to also find positive news, for truly we live in ‘the best of times, the worst of times’, and both should be addressed should we hope to obtain proper citizenship.

-Beware not to focus on the negative things, recall that Lehi was so focused on the tree of life that he didn’t focus on the filthiness of the river flowing beside, which represented the pride of the world. But let us not think him an ignoramus either. Good men show that we can be informed without being inducted. WE MUST KNOW ABOUT THE RIVER SO WE DON’T GET IN IT.

-Also, we don’t know how long we are going to have the internet. This is a great opportunity to use the freedom of speech which we have to 1. Learn and 2. Teach. Consider the historic rarity freedom of speech is, and the unprecedented access to information we have today. To not take these things lightly, and do not let this window of opportunity pass by. A person would do well to find their favorite and most important articles, and print them, creating a book cataloging these things. I tell you of the joy that comes in life when one pays attention to his surroundings, and endeavors to teach an awareness of the same; it puts him in a position to exhort his hearers to certain acts which would otherwise by difficult or impossible to persuade them to, had they not had the information behind the purpose for the action. Carisma only goes so far; persons of intelligence need pure knowledge before they will be moved to act in any significant way.

-Life is too short to not say how you feel. In the Gazette will be found not only articles of current events, but from time to time, articles of  major importance discoursing on singular subjects.
